My own travels have taken me all around the southern half of England recently. I've been to see Fishbourne Roman Villa and Petworth House in the South, Bury St Edmonds Abbey in the East and two lovely National Trust properties near Bath in the West.
Not bad for the off-season, when guides traditionally have their feet up recharging for the coming spring and summer tourist season.
